With the NFL Draft approaching, Pittsburghers and out-of-towners are mapping out travel routes to attend the events.
With large crowds expected as people try to avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic, BikePGH is providing a guide to navigating Pittsburgh by bike.
“The best way to experience this major event is by bike, as it’s the fastest, most flexible and most enjoyable way to get to where you’re going,” BikePGH, a nonprofit centered around making Pittsburgh’s streets accessible for bicyclists and pedestrians, said in a blog post
The Bike the Draft Resource Guide includes an interactive map showing POGOH – Pittsburgh’s bikeshare program – stations, route recommendations, detour tips, bike parking spots, and practical guidance on safety, planning a trip, and locking up bikes properly.
While individual bike racks are scattered throughout downtown, the map highlights locations near the event site with a high concentration of secure racks, with descriptions of each bike parking area.
Bike racks in the North Shore are located at Allegheny Center, Nova Place, Children’s Museum, PNC Park, under the Fort Duquesne Bridge and Community College of Allegheny County.
The bike dismount area will be on Penn Avenue. The street will be closed to traffic including the bike lane between 9th and Stanwix.
Bike racks near Downtown and Point State Park are located along Boulevard of the Allies, the City-County Building Portico, Gateway Center Garage, Cultural Trust Oasis, among others.
POGOH is offering a Day Pass that costs $16 and gives riders 24 hours of riding with unlimited 2-hour pedal bike trips and unlimited 30-minute e-assist trips.
Single rides cost $1 to unlock any bike. Pedal bikes charge $0.19 per minute and e-assist bikes charge $0.32 per minute.
Pittsburgh has more than 117 miles of marked bike routes and protected bike lanes.
BikePGH is updating the map as more bike parking spots open, the website said.
