Derry pitcher Haylee Myers listed a 2-1 playoff win last year against Greensburg Salem as the highlight of her softball career.
Tuesday’s perfect game is a close second.
Myers twirled her first career no-hitter, shutting down the minimum 21 batters for a spot-free, 1-0 victory over visiting Freeport in Section 1-4A.
The junior right-hander struck out 14 and had zero walks.
“My location and rise ball were really effective,” Myers said. “I was able to get ahead of batters and throw my best stuff. (The perfect game is) exciting for myself and my team.”
Myers threw 93 pitches, 64 for strikes, and also had the lone RBI.
“She was dominant,” Derry coach John DePalma said. “Freeport has a lot of good buy-in and they’re very well-coached. They have to make players like we do, and that takes time.”
The run scored in the fifth.
Senior Francesca DePalma, who went 3 for 3, tripled off the fence in left, and Myers knocked her in with a grounder to second.
Derry (7-4, 6-3) had six hits off of junior Ali Smith, who struck out three and walked just as many.
Freeport fell to 5-7, 3-6.
The teams will play again Thursday at Freeport.
