Wildflower Walk

Discover more than “the pretty little flowers” along the trail when you join the wildflower walk with a herbalist and forest wanderer hosted by the Elizabeth Township Historical Society on May 2, (rain date May 9) in Elizabeth Township.

Lindsey Praksti of Delmont will share her insights during a one-hour nature trek along the Great Allegheny Passage Way starting at the historical society’s museum at 5811 Smithfield St. Praksti is a 2012 graduate of Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine and a member of the Westmoreland Conservancy and Botanical Society of Westmoreland County.

The walk will start at 11 a.m. and is being organized by Marilyn Backus, an ETHS director and reenactor, Garden Federation of Pennsylvania District VII Director and certified National Garden Clubs Judge.

In addition to the walk, a boxed lunch will be served and the historical society’s Coates House will be open for tours.

The Coates House, an Edwardian home built in the early 1900s, showcases historical clothing, tools, household items and memorabilia from various periods. One of the highlights is the Golda Abraham Memorial Library Room, which houses a collection of historical books and records, making it a valuable resource for genealogical and historical research. Also, surprises will fill raffle baskets and raffle tickets will be sold.

Pittsburgh Rose Society

The Pittsburgh Rose Society will hold its annual 2026 Rose Show from 1-3 p.m. June 13 at the Whitehall Borough Building, 100 Borough Park Drive.

The Pittsburgh Rose Society’s annual David McKibben Rose Expo will take place from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Whitehall Borough Building Community Room.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Brentwood school farewell and arts nights

The Brentwood community is invited to come together for memorable farewell and art night events at Elory and Moore Elementary schools in early May. Both schools will be open for community members to tour and view artwork by kindergarten through fifth grade students.

The schools will close in June after serving Brentwood students and families for more than 100 years. The new Brentwood Elementary School will open in September, bringing all Brentwood K-5 students together in one modern building for the first time since 1921.

Elroy Elementary’s Good-bye event and Art Night is May 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Food trucks will be available outside, including Franken-Fried, Funky Funnels and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee. Elroy School opened to students in 1921.

Moore Elementary’s Open House and Art Night is May 13. Tours will be held from 3:30-4:45 p.m. and attendees must RSVP for a tour slot (3:45, 4:15 or 4:45 p.m.) by May 11 by calling the Moore School Office at 412-881-7776 during school hours. Art Night will be held from 5-7 p.m. The first Moore School opened in 1912 and students have been attending school in the current building since 1916.

School crossing guards wanted

The Pleasant Hills Education Service Agency is accepting applications for the positions of full time and substitute school crossing guards.

Hours would be approximately 6:45-8:30 a.m. and 2:30-4:15 p.m. on school days.

Applications may be obtained at the Pleasant Hills Police Department, 410 E Bruceton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236, between the hours of 7 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekdays.

Applications are to be returned to the Chief of Police at the above listed address by Sept. 4, 2026.

St. Elizabeth Church

Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish is holding its Spring Fest New 2 U Rummage Pre-Sale Event on May 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Saint Pius X Hall on the campus of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Admission is $5 per person, and all items are cash-only. There will be a large assortment of antiques and collectibles along with jewelry, household items, toys, games, puzzles, tools, holiday decor and much more. Spring Fest kicks off on May 13 from 6-10 p.m., running each night through May 16 at St. Elizabeth Church Grounds. Spring Fest is a fun-filled event for the whole family featuring rides by Reinhart Amusements, live music and entertainment, games, nightly basket raffles and Triumph Treasures prizes, Big Money raffle, New-2-U Rummage Sale, delicious food and treats, and our famous, homemade Spring-a-Rama Donuts.

Day of Caring

As a continued expression of our appreciation for the senior citizen residents of Baldwin Borough, Baldwin Township, and Whitehall Borough, Baldwin Whitehall School District’s administrators, teachers, and professional staff will be available for a Day of Caring on May 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kindergarten registration opens

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year is open for future Baldwin-Whitehall students.

AUP inviting singles 50 to join

The Association of University People invites singles 50 , who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people.

Activities include happy hours, brunches, lunches, dinners, meet-ups at music venues, a non-traditional book group, day trips and Scrabble.

Those interested can attend three activities as guests before joining.

South Park’s class of ‘76 to gather

South Park High School’s class of 1976 will celebrate its 50th reunion Aug. 21 at the South Park Fairgrounds.

The festivities will start at noon at The Cottage, near the “clock building.”

The cost is $25 per person, and guests are welcome.

The reunion committee will provide food and cake. Attendees should bring their own beverages, snacks and sides.

Men’s church softball league registration

Registration is open to teams, individual players or a group of players wanting to play in the Men’s Church Softball League of the South Hills. Games are played as doubleheaders primarily on Saturdays (5:30 or 8 p.m.), based on schedule and requests. The season generally runs from May through July, plus playoffs (holidays off with one schedule request option). Games are played in Bethel Park or Bridgeville. The entry fee is per team or by individual.

Used Book & Boutique Sale

Friends of the Jefferson Hills Public Library are hosting the Used Book & Boutique Sale April 23-26 in the library’s community rooms.

A preview party will be held from 7-9 p.m. April 23. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of.

The regular sale will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 24-25. The final day of the sale, April 26, runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and features 50 percent off of boutique items and a $5 bag/$10 medium box of books.
