There were seven meet records set at the Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association track and field championship in 2025.

Expect a few more to fall Thursday at Mt. Pleasant when the county schools get together for the annual meet: 103rd for the boys and 46th for the girls. The meet was moved from Latrobe as it constructs a new track at Memorial Stadium.

Latrobe junior Preston Miller and Greensburg Central Catholic senior Jerry Davis broke records in 2025.

Miller’s second was in the 100-meter dash and Davis, a returning WPIAL and PIAA Class 2A, won the 400.

Both are looking to set new marks.

The field preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and the running preliminaries at 1.

The running finals are slated to begin 45 minutes after the 200 semifinals, or around 3:30 to 4 p.m.

Some of the other events where records could be challenged include the 800 and 1,600 and high jump for the girls as well as the boys 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump.

Looking to become three-time champions are Franklin Regional’s Caroline Shirley (3,200), Hempfield’s Madison Altman (300 hurdles), Davis (400) and Greensburg Salem’s Luke Rullo (triple jump).

Altman said her goal is to see her times continue to improve, and the winning takes care of itself.

Others returning champions are Miller (100 and 200), Norwin’s Annie Czajkowski (800 and 1,600), Kiski Area’s Gianna Devito (high jump), Hempfield’s Tessa Trageser (pole vault), Hempfield’s Maddie Tulley (shot put) and Derry’s Jeremiah Gess (pole vault).

Others to watch include Hempfield’s Chesnee Smith (800 and 1,600), Franklin Regional’s Jamie Kociela (high jump), Franklin Regional’s Sean Cartwright (110 hurdles), Norwin’s Jeremiah Francis (110 hurdles and long jump), Hempfield’’s Jonathan Stetchock (3,200) and Mt. Pleasant’s Gage Sowers (pole vault).

Cartwright said he is looking forward to competing against the best in the county.

“I want to continue to improve my times,” Cartwright said. “I want to peak next month and qualify for states.”
