Craft mini-camps
The Rewind-Reuse Center in Export will host a series of summer craft mini-camps for children who have completed grades 2-6. Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration is first-come, first-served. The deadline to register is June 8.
Sessions include:
• Yes, I Wood: Making wooden bookends and shadow boxes, June 23 and 25
• Nature Rocks: Making walking sticks, bee houses, shells and foliage, July 14 and 16
• Friends and Alloys: Making jewelry, plaques and tin creations, July 23 and 23
• Cool Threads: Reading patterns, making a wall organizer and shop aprons, July 28 and 30
• Let ‘er Rip: Making journals, quilling and sticker making
The cost is $10 per session. Checks can be made payable to the Rewind-Reuse Center, and mailed to the center at 5853 Washington Avenue, Export, PA, 15632. Each session is limited to 16 students.

Export gives away Christmas wreaths
Export officials recently replaced the lit Christmas wreaths that hang in the borough during the holidays, and will give away the old ones.
Old wreaths will be placed at the pavilion near the Export Public Works building. They are first-come, first-serve and will be available through the end of April. Borough officials said not all of the lights on every wreath are functional, and some of the wreaths may require some work to become fully lit.
Lyme disease meeting
The PA Lyme Resource Network will host a monthly Lyme disease support group meeting.
Meetings will take place on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Monroeville Public Library, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.

Craft, flea market
Sardis Volunteer Fire Company will host a May 16 craft and flea market from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the fire company, 5205 Rocky Hill Lane in Murrysville.
Vendor cost is $25 per table in advance or $30 per table at the door; 8-foot tables will be provided. Food trucks and coffee will be on-site.

Delmont fundraiser
The Delmont Visionary Committee will partner again with the Musical Mysteries & More Theater Company to host a mystery dinner fundraiser.
It will be at 5:30 p.m. May 9 at The Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. Tickets are $55 and include a buffet diner and a performance of “The Tragic Demise of Alfred the Squatty.”

Woman’s club scholarships
The Murrysville Woman’s Club is accepting applications for its annual nontraditional scholarship program. A minimum of three $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to women seeking to further their education.
Applicants must be Westmoreland County residents, 21 or older, and must demonstrate financial need. They must be enrolled in college or able to provide proof of enrollment.
Applications are available at Seton Hill University; Westmoreland County Community College’s Hempfield and Murrysville campuses; the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg; and at libraries in Delmont, Greensburg, Murrysville and New Kensington.

Bataan Memorial March
The Norwin Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps will hold its 14th annual, 14-mile Bataan Memorial March along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail on April 25.
The race begins at 9 a.m. at the B-Y Park trailhead in Trafford, with a rest and water station 7 miles from the trailhead. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. at the trailhead.
The Bataan Memorial March is conducted in memory of the American and Filipino soldiers in the Philippines during World War II who were forced to march about 65 miles to a prisoner of war camp after surrendering to the Japanese Army in April 1942. Hundreds of American prisoners and thousands of Filipino prisoners were beaten and killed along the march by their Japanese captors.
The proceeds from the event will be used to support All American Rucks, a cause that means a lot to the cadet corps, said Megan Evanuik, Norwin Air Force Junior ROTC president. All American Rucks coordinates the annual “Staff Sgt. Kyle McKee Memorial Ruck” in honor of one of the cadets’ fathers, who was killed in action while serving in Egypt in 2020. All American Rucks’ mission is to honor veterans, first responders and community members who make an impact and inspire each other to achieve new heights, Evanuik said.
The race, walk and biking event is free to the Norwin Air Force Junior ROTC cadets and other invited schools with Junior ROTC programs. A commemorative T-shirt is $15. The cost for entrants is $25 and includes the T-shirt ($10 for registration and $15 for the T-shirt). The registration fee is donated to All American Rucks.
A limited number of T-shirts will be available on the day of the event along with a registration form.
Help with heating bills
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance program (LIHEAP) provides cash grants to help Pennsylvania families pay their heating bills.
Through May 8, low-income residents who need assistance paying for their heating bill can apply for a one-time grant of $200 to $1,000 that will be applied directly to their utility provider.
Funding is limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

To qualify for LIHEAP in Pennsylvania, you must meet income requirements, which are set based on household size. Renters and homeowners are eligible for benefits. You do not need to be on another public assistance program or have unpaid heating bills to qualify.
If you are experiencing an emergency related to your household’s heat, such as broken equipment, or facing utility service termination, you might be eligible to receive additional funds through a crisis grant.

State police academy
The Pennsylvania State Police is now accepting applications for its 2026 Law and Leadership Academy – Southwest Location. The application period runs through May 1.
The free program is designed for residents or students in Southwest Pennsylvania, ages 18 and older, who have a high school diploma or GED and are seeking a career in law enforcement. Modeled after professional police academies, the curriculum includes instruction on criminal investigations, traffic laws and police resources, alongside paramilitary training in physical fitness, swimming and marching.
The academy runs from May 11 through Aug. 5. Classes are held:
• Mondays: 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Wednesdays: 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
• Saturdays: Two dates (tentative)
The program aims to foster self-discipline and teamwork while giving participants a firsthand look at the cadet experience.
