Bell Acres officials recognized Police Chief Kristoffer Korol for his life-saving efforts at a crash scene earlier this year.

Korol was first on scene for a single-vehicle crash along Ambridge Avenue in Bell Acres on Feb. 24 at 8:37 a.m.

A woman had crashed her SUV into a trailer in the lot of the former Berkeys, narrowly missing his police car.

Chief Korol, Leetsdale Police Sgt. Michael Slawianowski and Fair Oaks Assistant Fire Chief Jacob Mosholder also responded.

All four worked in tandem to perform CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED).

They were able to restore the woman’s pulse and partial breathing, and continued medical treatment until a EMS crew arrived.

Medics were able to get the woman’s breathing under control. She was transported to an area hospital and later recovered.

“My main goal was making sure the driver was OK that day and it was a great outcome,” Korol said April 15.

Mayor Kenneth Alvania presented an award to Korol on April 14.

Other borough officials offered their thanks.

“Chief Korol demonstrated his unwavering dedication and remarkable courage by swiftly responding to a life-saving cardiac emergency,” Borough Manager Lisa Fleming said. “This award is a symbol of trust, respect and gratitude for those who heroically protect and serve our community.”

Korol said he was not expecting the recognition and that he and other first responders were just doing their jobs.

Everyone, he said, relied on their training.

“It feels great,” Korol said. “I can’t thank the helping officers enough. As a team, we did a wonderful job, and it feels good to save someone’s life.”

Bell Acres officials also extended appreciation to the Scott Foundation for providing a grant to acquire the AEDs that were used in the incident.

Korol said he could not share any further information about the woman.

Jameson and Mosholder were recognized at a Leet commissioners’ meeting March 9.
