The Longvue Acres Garden Club will present its 76th perennial plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon May 16 in the lower parking lot of Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless.

More than 800 perennials — including Pennsylvania natives and pollinators — will be available for purchase.

The cash-only sale will take place rain or shine.

Because the plants are grown in members’ gardens and donated for the sale, it is always a surprise to see the variety of plants offered from year to year.

This year, Larry Grundler of Summerhill Farm is providing a variety of his specialty irises.

Patrons also can peruse the freebie table for gently used gardening items and chat with a crew of Penn State Master Gardeners. They and other club members will be available to answer gardening questions and help with plant selections.

Proceeds from the plant sale fund Longvue Acres Garden Club’s monthly educational programs, which are open to the public, and support the maintenance of UPMC Passavant’s chapel garden. The plant sale also supports the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Botanic Gardens of Western Pennsylvania, North Area Environmental Council and community gardens in McCandless and Ross.

Longvue Acres Garden Club welcomes new members. It meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Northmont United Presbyterian Church.
