For decades, our health care system has been dysfunctional. The free market is good for some things, but health care is not one of them. We have the highest per capita spending globally, yet our system ranks last among high-income countries.
Because of high out-of-pocket costs, health care, along with food and housing, is a top financial concern for us. Roughly 66.5% of all bankruptcies are due to medical expenses, and approximately 24% of adults have medical debt they cannot pay or that is past due. The status quo of our current system is not sustainable. It is in crisis.
Now, along comes President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill Act, and our health care is imploding. To give tax cuts to the wealthy top 1%, Trump implemented the largest health care cuts in U.S. history. These cuts are causing millions of Americans to lose their health insurance, hundreds of health care facilities to close, thousands of jobs to be lost and health care costs to rise, all of which are jeopardizing our entire economy.
Enough. We, the taxpayers, cover the cost of the excellent health care coverage for Trump and our elected officials. We should expect the same quality coverage for all Americans. Call your Congressperson at 202-224-3121. Tell them we want the same quality health care insurance that our tax dollars provide to them.
