Ken Eriksen saw Toryn Fulton’s multi-talented skill set from the beginning.

“She put on a show in the fall,” the South Florida softball coach told Gousfbulls.com. “I think you are going to see a lot of her this year.”

He wasn’t damning Fulton with faint praise. Far from it.

Fulton, a Franklin Regional alum, has become a mainstay in right field for the Bulls.

She has started 44 games and was leading the team with a .339 batting average and .571 slugging percentage. She had six home runs and two triples, 27 RBIs and 25 runs.

A rangy 6-footer, Fulton covers a lot of ground in the outfield and brings power to the plate.

She had 10 multi-hit games, including a 3-for-4 performance with a triple and three runs in a 9-4 win over Memphis.

Getsy at IUP

Former Franklin Regional head football coach Lance Getsy is joining Paul Tortorella’s staff as a tight ends coach at IUP.

Getsy coached Franklin Regional for five years, guiding the Panthers to four WPIAL playoff appearances. He also was the head coach at Charleroi for two years.

He played tight end at Slippery Rock.

“Becoming a member of this historic program under coach Tortorella, working with a top-tier coaching staff, and having the opportunity to coach student-athletes at this university is an exciting time for my family and me,” Getsy said.

Doubling up

Franklin Regional had two teams advance to the WPIAL Class 3A doubles tennis tournament.

Colin Stalnaker and Sanshiro Ogawa, the Section 1-3A runners-up, were the seventh seed. They won their first match, defeating Cal Johnson and Jaxon Hittle of Mars, 10-2, before falling to second-seeded Luca Ritivoi and Noah Klaber of Mt. Lebanon, 10-1.

Prem Nadesan and Arnesh Paura won the section third-place match to qualify for the district championship. They defeated Latrobe’s Grant Gardiner and Eli McKeever, 6-3, 6-3, to take WPIAL bronze.

Nadesan and Paura, the 12th seed, lost in the first round of the WPIAL tournament to Frank Siegel and Grant Fenton of Fox Chapel, 10-3.

Isabella Ioannou scored six goals, while Emme Funari and Leah Wagner had three apiece for the Panthers.
