Just before the Penn State football team took the field for its annual Blue-White spring game practice Saturday, Upper St. Clair junior Ryan Robbins gave first-year coach Matt Campbell some welcomed news.
The 6-foot-7, 280-pound, three-star offensive lineman committed to the Nittany Lions.

Robbins chose the Nittany Lions over finalists Ohio State and Virginia Tech. The offensive tackle also had offers from Pitt, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Indiana, N.C. State, Nebraska, Syracuse and Wake Forest, among others.
He was a first-team Class 5A Allegheny Six all-conference selection last fall when the Panthers went 10-3 and reached the WPIAL semifinals.
In addition to his success on the football field, Robbins also is a standout basketball player for the Panthers. He was the Trib HSSN boys basketball player of the year after leading the Panthers to a third straight WPIAL championship this winter.
The junior center was the leading scorer in all three of the Panthers’ WPIAL playoff victories, averaging 20 points per game in the postseason. In a WPIAL championship game thriller against New Castle, Robbins had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, along with four blocks, an assist and a steal.
Robbins finished the season with 442 points, 325 rebounds and 67 blocked shots.
He averaged a double-double for the season with 15.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest as Upper St. Clair went 27-2.
His older brother Tyler Robbins, a 6-10 forward, just completed his freshman basketball season at Miami (Ohio).
Robbins is the 12th commitment in Penn State’s 2027 class, including Central Catholic cornerback Zachary Gelason Jr. and lineman Jon Sassic.
