Pitt has almost totally retooled its men’s basketball roster this past month, and coach Jeff Capel has gotten to work in rounding out his coaching staff for the 2026-27 campaign.

On Monday, the Panthers announced two new hires: Ricardo Greer, who will serve as associate head coach, and Ronald Ramon, who’s been named an assistant. Additionally, assistant athletic director of scouting Billy Hubly was promoted to assistant coach.

Greer (1997-2001) and Ramon (2004-08) are former players at Pitt and replace Tim O’Toole and Jason Capel on the Panthers’ staff. Hubly’s promotion fills the void left from assistant coach Gilbert Brown’s offseason departure.

“Ricardo, Ronald and Billy each bring something special to our program,” Capel said in a statement. “Ricardo and Ronald are Pitt men. They’ve lived this program, they’ve competed at the highest level, and they understand what it means to wear Pitt on your chest. Billy has been an invaluable part of what we’ve built here over the last three years, and his promotion is well-deserved. Together, we have assembled a staff that will elevate every aspect of our program.”

Greer joins Pitt from Dayton, where he served as Anthony Grant’s associate head coach since 2021, originally joining the Flyers in 2017.

Previously Greer got his coaching start at Central Florida from 2015-17 as director of player development.

As a player at Pitt, Greer was a two-time All-Big East selection. His 1,753 points rank eighth in program history, and he also collected 888 rebounds in a Panthers uniform.

Greer also led the Panthers in scoring and rebounding his final two years with the program.

A member of the Dominican Republic national team from 1999-2009, Greer enjoyed a 14-year professional career overseas in France, Ukraine, Croatia and Great Britain after leaving Pitt.

Ramon joins the Panthers from Iona, where he spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant. Previously, he was on staff at Fordham for five years.

In 2019, he began his coaching career at his alma mater, serving as assistant director of basketball operations under Capel.

Ramon’s playing career at Pitt saw the Panthers go 101-35 with four NCAA Tournament appearances. His 233 made 3-pointers rank fourth all-time in program history, while his 39.5% make rate from deep is seventh.

After his college days, Ramon played 11 professional seasons in South America

Hubly been on staff at Pitt since 2023 and previously occupied roles at South Florida, East Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Hubly owns a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill.

Note: Pitt also announced on Monday that guard Macari Moore would be returning for the 2026-27 season, making him Capel’s lone scholarship player from a season ago to stay. Moore, who will be a sophomore this upcoming season, made 22 appearances as a true freshman, averaging 5.9 minutes and 1.4 points per game. His former teammates Brandin Cummings, Nojus Indrusaitis, Omari Witherspoon, Roman Siulepa, Papa Amadou Kante, Henry Lau and Kieran Mullen all transferred. Moore instead will get to work with Pitt’s incoming transfers: Georgia Tech big man Baye Ndongo, forward Dominique Diamante (BYU/Washington) and guards Naithan George (Syracuse/Georgia Tech), Jonathan Powell (North Carolina/West Virginia), Jalil Bethea (Alabama/Miami), A’Lahn Sumler (Charleston Southern) and Colin Hawkins (Gardner-Webb).
