There were seven athletes that earned MVP honors at the 103rd and 46th annual Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association meet on April 23.
Earning MVP honors for the girls were Greensburg Salem sophomore Isabella Dinkel on the track, Kiski Area sophomore Alaysia Bell in the field and Greensburg Central Catholic senior Georgia Evans won the combined award.
Dinkel won the 100-meter dash and the 300 hurdles, Bell won the triple jump and was second in the long jump and Evans won the long jump and finished third in the 200.
On the boys side, Latrobe junior Preston Miller was the track winner, Greensburg Salem senior Luke Rullo and Kiski Area junior Nicolas Anderson tied on the track and Franklin Regional junior Sean Cartwright was the combined winner.
Miller won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, Rullo claimed the triple jump and long jump, Anderson won the shot put and discus, and Cartwright won the 110 hurdles and the high jump.
Kent rules Fayette meet
Belle Vernon senior Ryan Kent had a big day at the Fayette County Coaches’ Association meet.
Kent won the shot put, discus and javelin throws to earn MVP honors.
Connellsville’s Wiltrout breaking records
Connellsville graduate Madison Wiltrout recently set a personal record in the javelin that placed her No. 6 all-time among American women in the event.
The North Carolina graduate continued her unbeaten streak in 2026 when she unlashed a lifetime-best throw in the final round April 23 at the Drake Relays. Her throw of 209 feet, 1 inch (63.74 meters) was 8 feet better than her previous best.
Wiltrout won the USATF Winter Long Throws Championship with a throw of 201-1 to open her ‘26 campaign, turning back NCAA record holder Rhema Otabor of the Bahamas, who ended up second (199-7), and New Zealand’s Tori Moorby (193-11).
Wiltrout set the high school national record at a WPIAL qualifier at Norwin High School.
Big meets this week
The WPIAL Class 3A and 2A team championship semifinals will take place Tuesday at eight sites.
The Class 3A sites are Hempfield, Baldwin, North Allegheny and Butler.
The Class 2A sites are California, Shenango, Quaker Valley and South Park.
A couple of big invitationals will take place Friday.
More than 50 teams are entered at the 52nd Baldwin Invitational, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
There are more than 60 teams are entered in the Pine-Richland Invitational.
