A Harrison committee is seeking donations for a summer event that benefits people suffering from leukemia and lymphoma.

The “Together For a Cure” fundraiser is scheduled June 11 as a free family-friendly event with games, entertainment and food.

“We want to raise awareness and bring together the Upper Allegheny Valley community to support families in Western Pa. affected by blood cancer,” said Sydney Hayden, president of the Sheldon Park Advisory Council, which is hosting the event.

Every three minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer, according to Blood Cancer United, the nonprofit formerly known as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“Our goal is to create a meaningful and impactful community event,” Hayden said.

Anyone interested in donating is encouraged to through direct financial contributions or in-kind donations, such as basket auction items or event services.

The event is scheduled to run from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lloyd D. Hayden Community Center, 480 Park Ave., Harrison.

The event committee also includes Harrison Commissioner Jim Erb, Doug Deemer, Aliscea Branch, Anita Minnis, Alaina Branch and Carrie Lewis DelRosso.
