A day after using every reliever against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates shook up their bullpen with a pair of roster moves.
To make room for the return of right-hander Braxton Ashcraft — who was activated from the bereavement/family medical leave list in time to start Tuesday’s game — right-handed reliever Cam Sanders was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The Pirates made another move by recalling left-hander Hunter Barco from Indianapolis and optioning right-hander Wilber Dotel to Triple A.
Dotel pitched four perfect innings in Monday’s 4-2 loss to the Cardinals, recording three strikeouts and topping triple digits twice with his four-seam fastball.
Barco was 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA, 2.14 WHIP, seven walks, five strikeouts and three home runs allowed in seven innings over four appearances for the Pirates this season.
