New office space

Leetsdale officials voted 6-0 on April 9 to approve a $7,320 office build-out to be done by Pittsburgh-based Big Dog Construction. Councilman Scott Zahner was absent.

Councilman James DeGori said the company was the lowest of two bidders.

The new office space will be across from the administrative office in the borough building’s main lobby.

DeGori said the project is necessary to create a room for the borough’s tax collector and code enforcement officer, so they do not have to work out of the lower-level conference room.

There is no official start date for the project. Borough officials hope to have it ready by June.

Vacancy filled

Leetsdale council appointed Megan DeGori, wife of Councilman James DeGori, to the planning commission with a term ending next year.

The vote was 5-0-1 on April 9. James DeGori abstained and Scott Zahner was absent.

Megan DeGori fills in for Councilman Robert Benedict, who resigned from the planning commission in March.

Street sweeping resumed

Leetsdale’s street sweeping program resumed earlier this month.

Sweeping takes place Wednesdays and Thursdays.

There are signs posted along the streets that get swept alerting residents and travelers to not park there during certain times.

Borough police were expected to give warnings for the first week or two before issuing $25 fines.

New hire

Leet commissioners unanimously voted April 13 to hire Shaun Buckley as the township’s new full-time public work employee at $23.79 per hour plus benefits.

Buckley’s addition brings the department up to three workers, all full-time.

He takes over for Bill Miller, who resigned earlier this year.

“As a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I am familiar with the extraordinary service and sacrifice of Pennsylvania’s women veterans,” said Robinson. “Their bravery, resilience, and contributions to our nation’s military deserve recognition and celebration, and I commend my colleague, Sen. Tracy Pennycuick – a U.S Army combat veteran – for organizing this event to pay special tribute to all Pennsylvania women veterans.”
