The second of two men involved in an altercation last year with a PNC Park security guard at a Pirates game has also filed a lawsuit against the team.

Joshua Gardner was leaving the Pirates game on May 4, 2025, with friend Patrick Egan, when Gardner bumped into a food-service employee. According to the lawsuit, Gardner said the employee insulted him, then got the attention of nearby security guard Raymond Stroud III.

Stroud and the two men got into an argument, and according to the lawsuit, Stroud punched Egan in the throat, face and head, later removing his belt and striking Egan’s face and back repeatedly.

Gardner says that during the fight, Stroud struck him in the groin while attempting to hit Egan, causing injury and lingering after-effects.

The lawsuit also claims the Pirates as an organization cast Gardner in a false light in a press statement following the incident, labeling him and Egan as the aggressors. Gardner said that narrative is contradicted by internal security footage from PNC Park.

The suit accuses the Pirates of battery in their capacity as Stroud’s employer, negligence and invasion of privacy. Gardner also states that no one from the team spoke with him about the incident during a follow-up investigation.

Egan filed a similar, separate lawsuit earlier this month, which named both the Pirates and Stroud as defendants.
