Restoration at a nearly 100-year-old Harrison church kicked off this week with help from the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation.
Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church on Broadview Boulevard was among the foundation’s 2026 historic religious properties grant recipients. The church was awarded $125,000 in matching grant funds for roof repairs, wooden door renovation and stained-glass window restoration.
The 1927 Gothic-style stone church will use some of the grant to re-point its historic facade.
Founded as Calvary Lutheran, the church merged with United Lutheran Church of Tarentum in 1972.
The congregation remains active, hosting the Becky’s Closet thrift shop on Wednesdays in the church basement. On Sunday, there will be a movie night at 6 p.m.
Sunday services are livestreamed on Facebook.
A total of 19 religious organizations were awarded the matching funding this year.
The landmarks foundation is the only nonprofit in Allegheny County to offer continuing financial and technical assistance to religious property owners. The program has doled out more than 320 grants, totaling nearly $4 million, since 1997.
