Mamadou Kane was a consistent performer throughout a 30-1 season for the Sewickley Academy boys basketball team, but he was at his best when it mattered most.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore forward had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the PIAA championship game to lead the Panthers to a 52-36 victory over Old Forge, giving Sewickley Academy its fourth state title.

Kane was recognized for his efforts by a group of Pennsylvania sportswriters Thursday when he was named the state’s Class 2A player of the year.

In addition, Sewickley Academy’s Mike Iuzzolino was tabbed the state’s co-coach of the year for Class 2A with Old Forge’s J.J. Thomas.

Kane averaged 12.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals, leading the Panthers in scoring and rebounding while shooting 64% from the field. He had 14 points and seven rebounds in a 52-38 win over Jeannette in the WPIAL final as Sewickley Academy claimed its sixth district title.

In all, 22 players from the WPIAL and City League were recognized on the all-state boys basketball teams.

Neshannock’s David Kwiat and Jeannette’s Markus McGowan joined Kane in earning first-team all-state honors in Class 2A.

Other WPIAL and City League players to earn first-team all-state recognition were Neighborhood Academy’s Kedron Gilmore (Class A); South Allegheny’s Drew Cook and Mohawk’s Bobby Fadden in Class 3A; Obama Academy’s Naron Jackson II and North Catholic’s Jason Fredericks in Class 4A; and Indiana’s Aaron Webb, Lincoln Park’s Josh Pratt and Gateway’s Mykel Bruce-McCrommon in Class 5A.

• Gilmore, a 5-11 junior, averaged 24 points, six assists and four rebounds for the WPIAL champion and PIAA runner-up Bulldogs (25-4).

• Kwiat, a 6-3 senior, averaged 22.5 points and had a school-record 1,692 points in his career.

• McGowan, a 6-3 junior who was second-team all-state last season, scored 18.9 ppg and averaged 25 points in the PIAA tournament for the Jayhawks (24-3).

• Cook, a 6-foot senior and Duquesne football commit, was the WPIAL’s leading scorer at 28.2 ppg. Also a first-team all-state selection last season, he had more than 2,000 career points for the WPIAL runner-up Gladiators.

• Fadden, a 6-1 senior and five-sport athlete, averaged 21.2 ppg and had 2,262 career points, a Mohawk record. He was third-team all-state in 2025.

• Jackson, a 6-1 senior, helped guide Obama Academy to the City League title and PIAA championship game by averaging 14 ppg.

• Fredericks, a 6-foot senior Franciscan commit, averaged 23.4 points a year after picking up second-team all-state honors. He had more than 1,300 career points.

• Webb, a 6-8 junior, averaged 24.3 points, eight rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. One of the area’s top college prospects, he has offers from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Louisiana, James Madison and Pepperdine.

• Pratt, a 6-1 senior, was a first-team all-state selection the past two seasons at Aliquippa before transferring to Lincoln Park. The Columbia recruit averaged 25.5 points, six steals, four rebounds and four assists.

• Bruce-McCrommon, a Missouri-Kansas City commit, averaged 21.1 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. He scored more than 1,250 career points.

Second-team selections included Sewickley Academy’s Adam Ikamba in 2A, South Park’s Luke Scarff and Aliquippa’s Qa’lil Goode in 3A, Obama Academy’s Eric James in 4A, Chartiers Valley’s Luca Federico and Penn Hills’ Amon Hawthorne in 5A, and, in 6A, Upper St. Clair’s Ryan Robbins, who was selected the Trib HSSN player of the year.
