They say April showers bring May flowers, but you’ll be getting more than beautiful blossoms for this first May weekend in Westmoreland County. Here are some fun things to do around the region.

Free Movie Day

Next week will bring in Star Wars Day (“May the fourth be with you!”), and the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center will celebrate by playing the 2016 film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” on Sunday.

The science fiction film is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of two hours and 13 minutes. Popcorn and other concessions will be available, so make sure you load up on snacks before the movie.

Showtimes will be 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg. Make sure to check out the Old Salem Pop Up Market for cool handmade items while you’re there. It will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn more at westmoreland culturaltrust.org.

Books and Brew

Have fun and raise money for the Ligonier Valley Library with this annual event Friday. This is a great way to keep your favorite programs going while enjoying a night out in the community.

The event will include food, beverages from Four Seasons Brewing and Lucky Latte Cafe, live music, local authors, silent auctions, basket raffles and more.

Tickets are $35 each, which includes two drink tickets and access to the “tasting tables.” You can get yours at the door, but make sure you have cash or a check. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the library, 120 W. Main St., Ligonier. Learn more at ligonier library.org.

Ligonier Valley Free Museum Day

Take the chance to see some of the most fascinating places in the Ligonier Valley with this free admission day to attractions including Antiochian Heritage Museum, Compass Inn Museum, Fort Ligonier, Ligonier Valley Rail Road Museum, Lincoln Highway Experience and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.

Visit multiple museums or pick your favorite. In addition to their normal collections and activities, the museums have created new activities and fun-filled surprises just for this special day.

This event is for all ages. It will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at a variety of locations in the Ligonier Valley. To learn more, visit compassinn.org.

Pittsburgh Oldies All-Stars

Wind back the clock with this superstar lineup of bands from back in the day, playing the tunes that piped through your radios and at your sock hops in the middle years of the 20th century.

Featuring The Jaggerz, Chuck Blasko’s Vogues, The Skyliners, The Marcels and Pure Gold, this show will get you dancing and singing along with some of the best songs ever to hit stages and airwaves.

Enjoy doo-wop, rock and oldies music live and in person. Tickets range in price from $43 to $78. The show will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. To get tickets, visit westmorelandculturaltrust.org.

Genesis tribute

We can argue all day about whether the Phil Collins or Peter Gabriel era of rock band Genesis’ discography was better. Or, instead, just head to the Lamp Theatre in Irwin on Saturday to see ABACAB, a Genesis tribute band covering all of their eras.

These seasoned professional musicians will journey through the 1970s and ’80s with a plethora of hits and album tracks, bringing to life both Gabriel and Collins. Whether you prefer the band’s progressive rock roots or pop hit bangers, this show will be a ton of fun.

The show will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $32 each. Learn more at lamptheatre.org.
