The Fox Chapel baseball team made the most of a break between Section 3-5A contests. The Foxes won four straight after losing to Mars on April 16.

Fox Chapel’s streak started with a 13-3 win over Valley and saw the Foxes pick up a pair of one-run wins over City League challenger Allderdice.

The Foxes had one more nonsection game lined up with Shady Side Academy before getting back into section play. Fox Chapel was in third place in the section, a game behind West Allegheny.

When the Foxes section schedule resumes, they will have a pair of games against the Indians that will play a major role in how the playoff picture shakes out.

Lacrosse showdown

Fox Chapel and Shady Side Academy had a tight battle in girls lacrosse action at Fox Chapel. Caroline Leland scored three goals to help the Foxes beat the Bulldogs, 9-6.

Zehra Ozkaya also contributed two goals and two assists for Fox Chapel. Lydia Demotte made 12 saves in net.

Sliding into 2nd

Fox Chapel closed section softball play with two wins over Mars to finish in a tie with Plum for second place in the section. Fox Chapel and Plum split their regular-season meetings.

The Foxes (11-5, 8-4) scheduled three nonsection games to get ready before the WPIAL postseason begins.

SSA at NFL Draft

The Shady Side Academy football team had an up-close look at the NFL Draft. The Bulldogs watched the draft from the front row thanks to an invite from 2008 Bulldog graduate Dan Rooney, who is the vice president of business development and strategy for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Shady Side Academy coach Andrew Geisler and assistant coach John McClelland accompanied a group of players to the event.
