Trib HSSN diamond team of the week – Elizabeth Forward Warriors baseball

Coach – Frank Champ (21st year)

Records – Elizabeth Forward is in first place in Section 2-4A with a 9-1 record. The Warriors are 11-6 overall this season.

#Earned – Last season, the Elizabeth Forward and West Mifflin baseball teams finished as co-champions in Section 2-4A with 10-2 records, one game ahead of Belle Vernon and three games better than Ringgold.

A year later, not much has changed as the Warriors, Titans and Leopards are only separated by one game heading into the final section series of the regular season.

Last week began with West Mifflin leading Elizabeth Forward by one game and Belle Vernon by two. But the deck got shuffled thanks to the Warriors’ sweep of the Titans.

In a pitcher’s duel Monday, the host Titans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The Warriors answered with one run in the second and two more in the third inning, then held on for the 3-1 win.

The victory forged a tie for the top spot between EF and West Mifflin heading into the section series finale Tuesday.

The game went back and forth, like two boxers connecting with their best punches.

The Warriors scored a run in the first inning before the Titans tied it in the top of the third.

Elizabeth Forward took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning before West Mifflin tied it again with three runs in the fourth.

The final run of the game was plated in the fifth inning by EF as it brought out the brooms in a critical sweep, 5-4.

With the two narrow victories, Elizabeth Forward jumped to the head of the line in the section and now sits in first place with a 9-1 mark, one game ahead of both West Mifflin and Belle Vernon.

The Warriors close out the regular season with two games against a Uniontown team (4-6) that is fighting for fourth place and a playoff spot, one game behind Ringgold (5-5).

Meanwhile, the Titans and Leopards battle on Monday and Tuesday for second place and to stay alive for a possible piece of the section crown.

Standout performers – Senior pitcher J.B. Crovak was a big part of the Warriors’ run to the district championship game appearance last spring and continues to shine on the hill in 2026.

Crovak started and was spectacular for EF, pitching six innings, allowing one run on only one hit with three walks and 11 strikeouts.

Senior Nate Grimm pitched the final inning for the save.

Junior Jacob Peterson hit a solo home run for the Warriors in the Monday victory.

On Tuesday, Grimm got the start for Elizabeth Forward and pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts for the win.

Peterson got the final out to pick up the save.

Grimm, Peterson and junior Kameron Little all went 2 for 3 at the plate. Grimm doubled and drove home two, Little also had an RBI while Peterson scored two runs.
