This year’s Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival will make history as the grand opening of Arts Landing, the Downtown Pittsburgh civic space project that will serve as the festival’s long-term home. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has pulled together a great concert lineup for the auspicious occasion.
The festival will be held over two weekends, from June 5-7 and 11-14. Concerts by the featured artists in the music lineup will take place between 7:30 and 9 p.m. each day at the Dollar Bank Stage in Arts Landing. Spectators can bring blankets and watch from the surrounding one-acre lawn.
This year’s festival will kick off on Friday, June 5, with ’90s alt-rock band Spin Doctors, known for hits “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong.” Saturday, June 6, will feature another ’90s staple, but in a different genre: hip hop group The Pharcyde, who will bring chill beats and hits such as “Passin’ Me By” and “Runnin’” to the stage. Then, on Sunday, June 7, pop group Trousdale fans can enjoy their gorgeous harmonies, country-tinged sounds and catchy songwriting on stage.
On the following Thursday, local powerhouses Buffalo Rose will take the stage, mixing Americana, pop, jazz, and a variety of covers and originals. Keeping a similar style, Friday night performers will be Grammy-nominated up-and-comers The War and Treaty. On Saturday, June 13, the performer will be Delfeayo Marsalis and The Uptown Jazz Orchestra, a Grammy Award-winning producer and trombonist. Closing the Arts Festival on Sunday, June 14, will be another throwback night, headlined by “One Of Us” singer Joan Osborne.
In addition to these featured artists, the Arts Festival will have its beloved Artist Market, as well as performances by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (June 13), local performing arts staples Squonk Opera (June 5-7) and worldwide sensation vertical performance BANDALOOP (June 12-13).
