Indiana Township residents can weigh in on a proposed housing plan during a public hearing May 13.

Supervisors will discuss an application by Mars-based Weaver Homes for a planned residential development situated at the intersection of Cove Run Road and Field View Lane.

Developers are seeking a green light to build 172 units.

As proposed, the project would consist of 94 single-family homes and 78 townhouses. Construction would be completed in two phases.

The township’s planning commission has recommended the proposal, which sits in a medium density residential zoning area.

The property abuts Emmerling Park, which last year doubled in size after the township purchased nearly 60 acres of undeveloped commercially zoned land from D&D Supply for $250,000.

The new portion of the park encompasses Deer Creek near the pedestrian bridge on the lower end of the park to just above a refinery on Route 910 by the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Township Manager Dan Anderson said the property eyed for housing is a vacant tract of land, about 97 acres, that straddles both sides of Cove Run.

No action is expected to be taken during the supervisor’s meeting that is scheduled directly after the public hearing, he said.

Residents can take a look at the project application from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays in the township office, 3710 Saxonburg Blvd.
