A Texas woman died after a crash in New Stanton in April, according to state police.
Troopers issued a news release Tuesday about the April 8 crash off the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Investigators said Sai Krishna Sandu, 27, of Michigan was driving a Kia car east at 7:30 a.m. near the New Stanton interchange when he fell asleep.
The car went off the highway, hit an embankment and rolled over, police said. The front seat passenger, Navya Nelakuditi, 22, of Texas, was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian where troopers said she later died.
It was unclear when she died. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner had not released any information about her death.
Sandu had minor injuries.
The Times of India reported Nelakuditi died April 9. She had moved from India to the U.S. to pursue her education and family members were fundraising for medical expenses and to return her body to her native country, the news outlet reported.
