North Allegheny secured the program’s sixth WPIAL boys tennis title and its second since 2024 with a 5-0 victory over Upper St. Clair in the Class 3A final Tuesday at Washington & Jefferson’s Janet L. Swanson Tennis Center.
The Tigers made their fourth consecutive finals appearance after earning runner-up finishes in 2023 and last season to Gateway.
Advaita Sircar, a junior who plays first singles for the Tigers, was confident after waiting a year for another chance at the title, and the Tigers came through. North Allegheny didn’t drop a set en route to the shutout win.
“It felt so good to come back here after last year, and be able to avenge our title, from last year’s defeat,” Sircar said. “We gained a lot of confidence from this.”
Sircar earned the first victory for the Tigers with a win in straight sets over USC’s Carter Lichtman.
Sircar didn’t make any mistakes and his strong forehand and his flow led to him cruising to victory.
“I really went into this match with a lot of confidence,” he said. “I knew I had to win for our team. And I played really well and they went for it.”
NA’s Ashwin Sudhakar downed USC’s Sidney Weissert in straight sets, putting the Tigers one victory away from clinching the title.
Shivum Telang and Ronit Ginde put the Panthers away in doubles, defeating Daniel Smith and Rex Wantje.
At third singles, Evan Kaufman downed Eathan Yealy, and Matthew Kampi and Adhav Ramadas closed it out with a win over Myles Owens and William Whitman.
“We have a really strong one, two and three,” Sudhakar said. “We all didn’t lose the match this year and showed.”
“We’ve been solid all year,” Kaufman added. “I mean, not only our singles, but doubles too as a team. I think we’ve won five almost every single match, so we go in every single time confident. We all know that if we go out there and do our job, we can win.”
Sudhakar said their mindset and teamwork led to success.
“We were just being confident,” he said. “I felt like that worked and being loud helped the team.”
Sircar commended the team chemistry as the Tigers moved into sixth place in WPIAL history with their sixth title, trailing Sewickley Academy (25), Mt. Lebanon (20), Upper St. Clair (16), Shady Side Academy (12) and Edgewood (9). The Tigers also won titles in 1993, 2000, ‘01, ‘09 and ‘24.
“It felt like a real good team win,” Sircar said. “I’m always going to support them and to see them win, it feels really good.”
Kaufman was happy to close out his WPIAL career with a win, but the Tigers aren’t finished.
“Losing last year was tough,” Kaufman said. “We came in definitely wanting to win. We didn’t get it done. So it’s good to come in here this year and finally execute, do our job, but we’re not done yet. Main goal is states.”
Kaufman said he wants the team to keep their momentum rolling.
“No brakes,” he said. “I mean we have a couple days here to enjoy the win and then get right back to it.”
Both teams advance to the PIAA team tournament, which starts May 12. North Allegheny will take on the District 3 third-place finisher. Upper St. Clair faces the champion from districts 8, 9 or 10.
