Melanie Green was in the running for her first LPGA title this past weekend at the Riviera Maya Open in Mayakoba, Mexico.

She ended up tying for ninth.

On her way to the next LPGA event, the Mizuho Americas Open in West Caldwell, N.J., she stopped in Ben Avon to play in the U.S. Women’s Open qualifier at Shannopin Country Club.

She continued her hot playing Tuesday, carding an 8-under-par 136 to grab the lone qualifying spot.

Green, 24, is playing her rookie year on the LPGA circuit and has two top-10 finishes.

She shot a 7-under par 65 during the final round of the 36-hole event.

The 81st U.S. Women’s Open Championship will be held at The Riviera Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., from June 4-7.

Amateurs Michelle Xing and Vanessa Borovilos finished at 2-under to grab the alternate spots.

Waynesburg’s Rachel Rohanna missed the cut after shooting 1-over.

Both amateur and professional players competed, with players representing 13 states, as well as Canada, China, Japan, Spain, England and Ireland.

Some of the local female players to compete along with Rohanna included reigning WPGA Junior Girls Player of the Year and two-time PIAA champion Mya Morgan, a senior at Elizabeth Forward High School; Ellie Benson (Peters Township); and Alyssa Zhang (Shady Side Academy).

Zhang finished with an 8-over 152, Morgan a 16-over 160 and Benson a 17-over 161.
