A Monroeville man was taken into custody after barricading himself inside his townhome for hours Thursday.
Charges are pending against the 65-year-old resident, whose name has not been released.
Allegheny County Police SWAT team responded to the 200 block of Blue Grass Circle around 1 p.m.
Negotiators made contact with the man, who authorities said was threatening to harm himself and responding officers.
Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said the man showed a handgun in a window.
The SWAT team used a flashbang and made forced entry through the front door after multiple continuous negotiation attempts. The man exited the rear of the home unarmed and was taken into custody at 5:17 p.m.
Cole said he was taken to Forbes Hospital for a mental health evaluation. No injuries were reported.
Officers obtained a search warrant and recovered at least one handgun.
This was the second day officers responded to the Blue Grass Circle home.
Cole said his department received calls Wednesday for a person in crisis, possibly creating a dangerous situation.
Family members cooperated with police and the situation was diffused, Cole said.
Police had a patrol unit at the house as a precaution Wednesday evening.
