Trib HSSN baseball player of the week – Andrew Corfield

School – South Side

Class – Senior

Position – Shortstop

#Earned – Andrew Corfield might be a jack of all trades, but he has mastered those on the various athletic fields.

This fall, the senior broke the South Side career rushing record in a game against Neshannock with a 256-yard, three-touchdown performance.

For the season, Corfield led the team in rushing with 1,115 yards, in receiving with 248 yards on 14 catches and in scoring with 19 touchdowns.

He ran for more than 3,500 yards in his career.

Over the winter, the pride of Hookstown established a new career scoring record for the Rams basketball program.

He averaged 25.7 points per game and was a first-team all-section pick in Section 4-2A.

Corfield finished second in the WPIAL regular season in scoring with 566 points.

Now in the spring, he is dominating in his true athletic love, baseball.

Corfield has been a big part of a South Side team that won the Section 3-2A championship and earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming district baseball playoffs and a first-round bye.

He leads the Rams in batting average with a .509 mark, on-base percentage at .649, slugging percentage at .755, hits with 27, runs scored with 30, stolen bases with 25 and triples with three and he’s tied for the team lead in doubles with seven and he has an OPS of 1.404.

Somehow, “AC” is only second on the team in RBIs with 19, one behind teammate Ryan Shaw.

The Rams entered the final week of the regular season in a three-way tie for first place in Section 3-2A with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Riverview.

South Side hosted Brentwood on Monday and in a wild offensive frenzy, Corfield was 3 for 5 with two triples and four RBIs in a 13-11 win.

The next day, the Spartans were cautious when pitching to him, walking him twice; however, he was 1 for 2 with an RBI as South Side beat Brentwood, 7-5.

The sweep of the Spartans while OLSH and Riverview were splitting their two-game series gave South Side the outright section crown.

Corfield’s nickname — AC — was given by his kindergarten teacher to differentiate him from a fellow classmate named Andrew.

Corfield plans to continue his academic and baseball career at Case Western in Cleveland.
