A Homestead man is accused of a string of violent incidents before and after police say he fatally stabbed a woman in Penn Hills on Thursday.
Allegheny County and Wilkinsburg police filed charges Friday against George Kevin Mitchell, 43.
The stabbing, in the 700 block of Penny Drive, was reported to Allegheny County 911 shortly after 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The woman, Jinx Hairston, 45, was taken by a private vehicle to UPMC Mercy hospital, where she died, according to county police.
The stabbing happened about six hours before police were notified.
County detectives said they identified Mitchell as the person responsible for the stabbing through witness interviews and surveillance video.
County police said Mitchell was identified as the suspect in five other violent incidents that day:
• At 3:10 p.m., Eastern Regional Mon-Valley Police went to Bell Avenue in North Braddock for a woman who reported a man threatened her with a gun.
The woman told police that a man, later identified as Mitchell, approached her from behind, grabbed her and held a gun to her head. He chased her around a parking lot while pointing the gun at her as she tried to get away.
The woman was not hurt, county police said.
• At 4:21 p.m., Penn Hills police went to the 100 block of Dauntless Drive for reports of a man, later identified as Mitchell, who tried to carjack an elderly couple at knifepoint.
County police said it was reported that Mitchell approached each victim separately, held a knife to their neck and demanded keys. They were not hurt.
Mitchell dropped the keys at the end of the driveway and fled in a black Cadillac sedan, county police said.
• At 4:42 p.m., Penn Hills police went to the 2100 block of Sampson Street for a man and a boy who were hit by a vehicle, later found to have been driven by Mitchell.
They were working on a sewer grate near the road when a black Cadillac sedan veered off the road and hit them, county police said. They were taken to a hospital and were in stable condition.
• Also at 4:42 p.m., Wilkinsburg police went to the 1600 block of Doyle Street, not far from Sampson Street, for a report of two girls who were hit by a vehicle.
Wilkinsburg police identified Mitchell as the driver.

A man told police he was walking in the 700 block of Penny Avenue when he was nearly hit by a black Cadillac sedan. The driver, later identified as Mitchell, got out of the car, approached the man and tried to stab him with a knife, county police said.
Wilkinsburg police charged Mitchell with two counts each of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and aggravated assault by vehicle, according to court records.
Allegheny County Police charged Mitchell with one count of criminal homicide, four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of robbery, simple assault and recklessly endangering anther person, court records state.
Mitchell was arraigned in both cases Friday and denied bail in each, according to court records, which did not list an attorney for him.
