Roughly five weeks into beginning his professional baseball career, Seth Hernandez is advancing within the Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm system.
Hernandez, a 19-year-old right-hander ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Pirates’ No. 2 prospect, is being promoted to High-A Greensboro, a source confirmed to TribLive.
The No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft by the Pirates, only shortstop Konnor Griffin, currently in the big leagues, ranks higher among the club’s Top 30 prospects.
Over six starts with Low-A Bradenton so far this season, Hernandez is 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA, 50 strikeouts and seven walks in 28 innings. The Pomona, Calif., native has a 0.71 WHIP and .135 batting average against.
In his last three starts for the Marauders dating back to April 24, Hernandez has posted nine strikeouts per outing.
During spring training, Hernandez dazzled fans, scouts, coaches and teammates alike with a fastball that hit 102.4 mph. He also throws a curveball, slider and changeup.
