The newly renovated Market Square will once again host weekly farmers markets and yoga classes, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership announced Monday.
The Downtown Farmers Market will launch its 22nd season Thursday. More than 30 local vendors will be on hand with regionally grown produce, small-batch foods and artisan merchandise.
The market will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday through September 29.
Pittsburgh-based nonprofit Just Harvest’s Fresh Access program will enable shoppers to use SNAP benefits at the market. SNAP participants will receive an extra $2 to spend on fruits and vegetables for every $5 they spend.
Yoga in the Square also is making its return to Market Square for the season. The free yoga classes started on Sunday and will be offered every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
A second free yoga class is available every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at nearby PPG Plaza.
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership also announced a Paint & Sip Night on Tuesday. Tickets are available online. It’s the first in a series of classes on painting, crafting, dance and music that will be hosted in the square in the coming weeks.
A retro roller skating rink was unveiled in Market Square last week, one of the first large events held in the space since it reopened after a $15 million renovation.
A large open-air, crescent-shaped pavilion was installed during the recent upgrades, which also saw new security cameras, trees, lighting and seating added. Work wrapped up just before the 2026 NFL Draft came to Pittsburgh. Live music, photo opportunities and vendors popped up in the square to welcome football fans during the three-day spectacle last month.
A new policy now in effect in Market Square requires anyone 18 or younger be accompanied by someone over the age of 21 from Thursday through Sunday between 3 p.m. and midnight. The rule was met with mixed reactions, as some said it was a necessary step to rein in unruly crowds, and others worried it was discriminatory and demonized the city’s youth.
