Police investigate Market Square shooting

A man was taken to a hospital in critical condition Monday night following a shooting in Downtown Pittsburgh’s Market Square.

Officers reported to the shopping area a little after 11 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple shots being fired, according to police.

On scene, police said they found a man with two gunshot wounds to the chest. Officers applied chest seals, and the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He was taken directly to surgery, police said.

Witnesses reportedly told police the man was involved in an altercation with another man he knew before the shooting took place. Police said investigators recovered multiple shell casing from the scene.

There have been no arrests as of early Tuesday morning. An investigation is ongoing.

Forecast shows more cold weather this week

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh reports the region had the 20th coolest start to May on record. From May 1-10, the average temperature was 52.2 degrees, just around 5.5 degrees warmer than the coldest start to the month — in 1917.

Before we hit temperatures in the 80s this weekend, the NWS says the region will have to make it through another cold stretch on Thursday. It’s expected to be a struggle to get out of the 50s, said a social media post from the service.

Temperatures are expected to steadily drop over the next few days, according to the NWS forecast for the area. With a projected high of 69 degrees Tuesday and 66 on Wednesday and lows of 53 and 44 degrees respectively. Thursday’s high is forecast to hit just 54 degrees before dropping to 44.

Folks can expect some reprieve Friday, with temperatures projected back in the high 60s, according to NWS.

The weather service had issued a freeze warning and frost advisory Monday evening for portions of the region, with temperatures dropping as low as low-to-mid 30s. The NWS had warned rural areas to protect sensitive vegetation. The warnings were in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The weekend’s warmth is expected to carry into early next week.
