Pittsburgh-based radio personality, content creator and former city firefighter Tad Wissel has been named an official co-host of the “Randy Baumann and the DVE Morning Show” on 102.5 WDVE.

Baumann announced Wednesday that Wissel, who has made weekly appearances on the show for the past six months, will join the show full time.

“It’s a dream come true. I’m a lifelong DVE listener, specifically the morning show,” Wissel said. “Since I could think about myself in the workforce, this is what I’ve wanted to do.”

In mid-November, comedian Bill Crawford, a former 102.5 WDVE morning show co-host, announced he was leaving the show to focus on stand-up comedy. Crawford had been on the show for 13 years.

Wissel, who grew up in both Squirrel Hill and Imperial, began filling in following Crawford’s exit.

Wissel began his career at WDVE as an intern in the fall of 2008 while attending college at Edinboro University.

“That was one of the bigger professional days of my life, being an intern at DVE Morning Show. That felt so huge,” Wissel said.

He then worked as a promotions coordinator for Fox Sports 970 from 2010-2014.

Wissel then spent a decade at SLB Radio Productions, where he created and produced content.

He also hosted multiple podcasts, including the ultimate frisbee culture favorite “Sin the Fields,” and spent the last three years serving as a firefighter for the City of Pittsburgh.

Wissel joked about the unorthodox career transition from broadcast to firefighter back to broadcast.

“I never thought I would be back in the building, or back in radio. I loved being a firefighter but this has been my dream job since … forever,” Wissel said.

In his new role, he will join Baumann, Abby Krizner and Mike Prisuta.

Baumann called Wissel’s new position a natural fit, saying listener response to Wissel had been overwhelmingly positive during his previous appearances.

“The way he’s been able to seamlessly jump into the fray with myself, Mike and Abby with such ease has been so much fun to watch unfold. He understands Pittsburgh in a very specific and authentic way which has always been the foundation of the DVE Morning Show,” Baumann said in a news release.

As a co-host, Wissel will contribute daily on-air content, including comedy, storytelling and Pittsburgh-centric segments that reflect the voice, humor and culture of the city.

“To be able to be part of this team and be able to create and talk about the city that I love and the city I grew up in is incredible,” Wissel said.
