John Poggi scored the overtime winner as No. 3 Shady Side Academy rallied past No. 6 Upper St. Clair in the WPIAL Class 3A boys lacrosse quarterfinals Wednesday night.
Noah Rosenfeld scored the tying goal with 1:28 left in regulation for the Bulldogs (9-5), who will meet No. 2 Fox Chapel in the semifinals Monday.
Hudson Yates and Jay Mohn each scored twice for Shady Side Academy. Max Lane and Beckett Mayfield each had two goals and Charlie Leimkuehler also scored for Upper St. Clair (6-8).
In other Class 3A boys quarterfinals, No. 2 Fox Chapel beat No. 7 Canon-McMillan, 11-5, No. 1 Mt. Lebanon topped No. 8 Hempfield, 19-5, and No. 5 Pine-Rich;and got past No. 4 North Allegheny, 8-7.
Girls lacrosse
Mars 23, Oakland Catholic 1 – Katie Blake scored seven goals, Hailey Long and Lucy Balazs each had four and Lola Seideneck added three to lead No. 1 Mars (17-1) past No. 8 Oakland Catholic (11-6) in the Class 2A quarterfinals.
Anna McGrath scored twice and Jenna Smith, Reanna Schmitt and Tess McGrath each had goals for the Fightin’ Planets, who will face No. 4 South Fayette in the semifinals Monday.
In other Class 2A girls quarterfinals, South Fayette beat No. 5 Franklin Regional, 15-4, No. 2 Hampton defeated No. 10 Chartiers Valley, 10-5, and No. 3 Quaker Valley downed No. 6 Blackhawk, 15-5.
