Matt Ager

Position: RHP

Height: 6-foot-6

Weight: 225 pounds

Level: Double-A

Notable: A sizable contingent in Pittsburgh and Westmoreland County must have relished the recent news of Pirates prospect Matt Ager’s promotion to Double-A Altoona.

Ager, a 22-year-old right-hander, attended UC Santa Barbara and never lived in Western Pennsylvania, but his father and uncle are Penn-Trafford graduates, while his mom is a West Mifflin native who attended Bethel Park.

Jeff and Lisa Ager went on to meet at Penn State, while their son was chosen in the sixth round (No. 174 overall) by the Pirates in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Now, Ager, after going 1-0 with a 4.67 ERA in five relief appearances at High-A Greensboro, has landed with the Curve, where he pitched four scoreless frames in his debut outing May 12.

In total this season, splitting time between the Grasshoppers and Curve, Ager is 1-0 with a 3.80 ERA, having pitched 21 1/3 innings over six appearances with 28 strikeouts and six walks.

Last season, upon turning professional, Ager spent all of 2025 with the Low-A Bradenton Marauders, going 2-6 with a 4.86 ERA.

But the next chapter of Ager’s baseball journey has commenced.

With Altoona just a drive of a few hours away, the extended Ager clan may well get to witness some of it in-person.
