Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Kevin Porter was hired as head coach of the United States National Team Development Program (NTDP).
USA Hockey announced the appointment Friday morning.
Porter spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the NTDP.
A veteran of eight NHL seasons, Porter spent parts of two campaigns (2015-16 and 2016-17) with the Penguins and was a member of the franchise’s Stanley Cup-winning squad in 2016.
Over 43 games with the Penguins, Porter recorded three assists and averaged 11:19 of ice time per contest.
In addition to the Penguins, Porter played for the Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres.
After retiring as a player in 2020, Porter spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League between 2020 and 2024.
