Toddler Callen Del-Presto chalked up a “first” on May 16 during the fourth annual Indiana Township Open House and Touch-A-Truck event.
“He went inside the police holding cell,” quipped new O’Hara resident and dad Paul Del-Presto, formerly of Lawrenceville.
Attendees enjoyed tours of the police holding cell and explored the township’s fire and public works trucks, as well as its police vehicles.
Activities included face painting, playground time, a bouncy house, yard games and music during the open house to showcase the township’s amenities and emergency resources.
This year, the event combined the open house with the touch-a-truck element and moved from its previous venue, Emmerling Park, to the grounds of the Indiana Township Municipal Building, known as Town Hall.
“We want to showcase the building. There’s a lot to do here that maybe people don’t realize,” said Indiana Township police Chief Mark Meyers.
The township building has a gymnasium, indoor basketball court and a new outdoor playground location.
“I want everyone to see what we provide here,” Meyers said.
Participating during the event were the Rural Ridge, Dorseyville and Middle Road Volunteer Fire Departments, the three agencies that serve Indiana Township.
“Get in, run around and enjoy yourself here,” Meyers said.
Free ice cream sandwiches from Emmerling Ice Cream, hot dogs and other snacks were offered as attendees perused emergency vehicles, fire trucks, digging equipment, police cruisers and more.
Meyers noted the basketball court and open gym times offered year-round are available to the public.
Town Hall is located at 3710 Saxonburg Blvd. To learn more about the facility, visit indianatownship.com or call 412-767-5333.
