Viva Los Tacos, which was in part of the former space of the Original Hot Dog Shop in Oakland, has reportedly closed after four and a half years in business.
On Monday afternoon, Viva Los Tacos was listed as closed on Yelp and appears to have taken down its website and social media accounts. TribLive was unable to reach the restaurant by phone.
Christopher Briem, a professor and regional economist at the University of Pittsburgh, also posted a photo of the restaurant’s signage being removed on Monday, captioned “O’s revenge.”

The Mexican-themed restaurant took over part of the historic Original Hot Dog Shop, or “The O,” in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood after it closed in April 2020. The hot dog shop had operated for 60 years.
The other section of the building at 3901 Forbes Ave. was occupied by Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, a Las Vegas-based sub franchise, before it closed in 2023. Viva Los Tacos was an original concept taco joint known for Mexicali street tacos, bowls and margaritas.
The closure follows Hemingway’s Cafe shuttering after a 43-year run in Oakland on May 3.
