Liam Cooper threw a complete-game three-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks as No. 3 North Allegheny defeated No. 6 Hempfield, 2-0, in the WPIAL Class 6A baseball quarterfinals Monday, avenging a loss to the Spartans in last year’s playoffs.

Christian Simons had two hits and an RBI and Ryan Evanish had two hits and a run scored for the Tigers (13-7), who will face No. 2 Canon-McMillan in the semifinals Wednesday. Grady Wheaton and Lukas Murray doubled for the Spartans (10-11).

Butler 3, Mt. Lebanon 2 – Karsten Lenyk drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth for No. 1 Butler (18-3) in a Class 6A quarterfinal win. Ryan Rattigan singled and drove in a run for the Golden Tornados, who will meet No. 4 Norwin in the semifinals Wednesday. Cameron Mayer had a single and two RBIs for No. 8 Mt. Lebanon (12-8).

Canon-McMillan 16, Seneca Valley 1 – Nico Patragas went 2 for 3 with a grand slam, M. J. Maruschak had a single and four RBIs and Brayden Radue and Troy Stimpson hit an RBI double apiece to lead No. 2 Canon-McMillan (16-5) to a Class 6A quarterfinal win. Danny Drennan singled and drove in a run for No. 7 Seneca Valley (10-11). The Big Macs will meet No. 3 North Allegheny in the semifinals Wednesday.

Eden Christian 12, Carmichaels 2 – Noah Emswiler had a double, triple and three RBIs, Brady Hull homered and Jackson Bremmer had a single, double and RBI to lead No. 1 Eden Christian (14-4) to a Class A quarterfinal win. Christian Watkins went 2 for 3 with a double for the Warriors, who will face No. 4 Western Beaver in the semifinals Wednesday. Dominic Yazzani doubled for No. 8 Carmichaels (9-10).

Elizabeth Forward 5, West Mifflin 1 – Kameron Little had a double and three RBIs to lead No. 2 Elizabeth Forward (15-6) to a Class 2A quarterfinal win over No. 7 West Mifflin (14-7). JB Crovak threw a complete-game three-hitter and struck out 11 for the Warriors, who will meet No. 6 Hopewell in the semifinals Wednesday.

Fort Cherry 11, California 7 – Tyler Wolfe went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs, Ben Demascal had two singles and two RBIs and Blake Sweder hit two singles and drove in four runs to lead No. 1 Fort Cherry (17-1) in a Class 2A quarterfinal win. The Rangers will meet No. 5 Laurel in the semifinals Wednesday. Logan Hartley went 2 for 2 with a double and RBI for No. 8 California (14-7).

Indiana 1, Knoch 0 – Brady Oakes and Charlie Manzi combined on a two-hit shutout as No. 1 Indiana (16-4) began its WPIAL title defense with a win over section rival No. 8 Knoch (13-9) in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Oakes gave up two hits with six strikeouts in four innings and Manzi threw three no-hit innings. Chase Force went 3 for 3 with two doubles and Ethan Shank drove in the winning run with an RBI groundout in the fifth for Indiana, which will meet No. 13 Derry in the semifinals Wednesday. Hard-luck losing pitcher Hunter Lang gave up one run on two hits with eight strikeouts in 4⅓ innings. Zane Pacek threw 1⅔ scoreless innings.

Neshannock 10, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Anthony Eakin went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, Nathan Rickel went 2 for 2 with a home run and Mason Moroz went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI for No. 2 Neshannock (17-3) in a Class 2A quarterfinal win. Winning pitcher Cole Hutchinson struck out seven and allowed one hit in five innings for the Lancers, who will meet No. 3 South Side in the semifinals Wednesday. Alex Clawson had the lone hit for No. 7 Apollo-Ridge (12-9).

Serra Catholic 13, Aquinas Academy 3 – Max Black went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Jake Jellison went 3 for 3 with a triple and RBI, Liam Sommerer had a single and two RBIs and Cole Hann drove in four runs to lead No. 3 Serra Catholic (13-7) to a Class A quarterfinal win. Ian Patterson hit a single and RBI for No. 11 Aquinas Academy (11-6). D. J. Deilman had a double and two RBIs for the Eagles, who will meet No. 2 Greensburg Central Catholic in Wednesday’s semifinals.

South Side 5, New Brighton 4 – Dawson Frasier went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Jake Ziegler tripled and Jacob Lytle hit an RBI double for No. 3 South Side (15-3) in a Class 2A quarterfinal win. Casey Bloom went 3 for 4 with a double, Carter Jackson doubled and drove in two runs and Dom Pasquale had a single and two RBIs for No. 11 New Brighton (9-8). The Rams will meet No. 2 Neshannock in the semifinals Wednesday.

Bentworth 6, Shenango 1 – Makayla Gonglik went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and Alexa Babirad went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead No. 3 Bentworth (19-2) to a Class 2A quarterfinal win. Addison Downing hit a home run for No. 6 Shenango (15-6). Sydney Gonglik struck out 12 and allowed three hits for the Bearcats, who will meet No. 2 Chartiers-Houston in the semifinals Thursday.

Carmichaels 1, Sewickley Academy 0 – Bailey Barnyak threw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 19, and hit an RBI triple for the game’s lone run to lead No. 2 Carmichaels (16-4) in a Class A quarterfinal win. Ke’Lani Chun went 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored and Joselyn Carter doubled for the Mighty Mikes, who will meet No. 3 West Greene in the semifinals Thursday. Charlotte Andrews had the lone hit for No. 7 Sewickley Academy (10-4).

Chartiers-Houston 4, Riverside 0 – Taryne Drilak threw a complete-game one-hitter and struck out eight for No. 2 Chartiers-Houston (18-2) in a Class 2A quarterfinal win. Kiera Drilak went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Brooklyn Hess tripled for the Bucs, who will meet No. 3 Bentworth in Thursday’s semifinals. Ayla Sterner had the lone hit for No. 7 Riverside (9-6).

Ellwood City 3, McGuffey 0 – Amber McQuiston threw a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to lead No. 4 Ellwood City (10-5) to a Class 3A quarterfinal win. Taylor Hoffman went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Kaylee Palombi went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI for the Wolverines, who will meet No. 1 South Park in Wednesday’s semifinals. Courtney Bedillion doubled for No. 5 McGuffey (10-7).

Jefferson-Morgan 2, Serra Catholic 1 – Ava Wood had a triple and RBI and Emilee Bazzoli singled and drove in a run to lead No. 5 Jefferson-Morgan (16-6) to a Class A quarterfinal win. Brianna Dobnak went 2 for 3 with an RBI for No. 4 Serra Catholic (12-6). Emilee Bazzoli gave up four hits and struck out seven in a complete game for the Rockets, who will meet No. 1 Union in the semifinals Thursday.

Keystone Oaks 2, Mohawk 0 – Kennadi Smith threw a complete-game one-hitter to lead No. 7 Keystone Oaks (17-4) to a Class 3A quarterfinal win. Nina Buckley had a single and RBI and Kailyn Brannon drove in a run for the Golden Eagles, who will meet No. 3 Mt. Pleasant in the semifinals Wednesday. Brooklyn Moskal had the lone hit for No. 2 Mohawk (14-6).

Laurel 4, Frazier 2 – Haley Balcom singled and drove in two runs and Ivy Pancher had a double and RBI to lead No. 1 Laurel (15-5) to a Class 2A quarterfinal win. Emma Travalena hit a two-run homer for No. 9 Frazier (12-10). Hailey Fell singled and drove in a run for the Spartans, who will meet No. 5 Neshannock in Thursday’s semifinals.

Neshannock 10, Brownsville 0 – Gianna Paglia threw a five-inning three-hit shutout and went 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs for No. 5 Neshannock (16-5) in a Class 2A quarterfinal win over No. 13 Brownsville (13-8). Jaidon Nogay went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Callie Biondi drove in two runs for the Lancers, who will meet No. 1 Laurel in the semifinals Thursday.

South Park 2, Avonworth 0 – Sydney Sekely threw a complete-game one-hitter with 20 strikeouts and one walk to lead No. 1 South Park (18-1) to a Class 3A quarterfinal win. Layla Pacifico hit a double for the Eagles, who will face No. 4 Ellwood City in the semifinals Wednesday. Alexandra Savatt hit a single and pitcher Anna Fowler struck out 13 and allowed three hits for No. 8 Avonworth (12-9).

Union 7, Jeannette 1 – Irelyn Fisher went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs to lead No. 1 Union (17-2) in the Class A quarterfinals. Korynne Shannon gave up five hits and struck out eight in a complete game for the Scotties, who will meet No. 5 Jefferson Morgan in the semifinals Thursday. Reese Brennen singled and drove in a run and Grace Stein struck out 10 for No. 8 Jeannette (11-4).

West Greene 15, South Side 1 – Samantha Zimmerman had a triple and two RBIs and Kendra Tharp and Emmaline Beazell singled and drove in two runs apiece to lead No. 3 West Greene (13-7) in a Class A quarterfinal win. Ariel Poelcher hit a home run for No. 6 South Side (10-9). Caitlin Whyte went 3 for 4 for the Pioneers, who will meet No. 2 Carmichaels in the semifinals Thursday.

Boys lacrosse

Mars 15, Hampton 9 – Grant Weaver had three goals and two assists and Jack Tirch and Reed Fuller also scored three goals to lead No. 3 Mars (14-4) past No. 2 Hampton (14-5) in the Class 2A semifinals. Conner Long had two goals and an assist, Nate Caldwell and Ike McMichael each added a goal and an assist and Hank Saver and Noah Lamping also scored for the Fightin’ Planets, who will meet No. 4 South Fayette for the championship Wednesday or Thursday at Upper St. Clair. South Fayette knocked off top-seeded Peters Township, 8-7.

In Class 3A, No. 5 Pine-Richland and No. 2 Fox Chapel will meet for the title after one-goal victories in the semifinals. The Rams beat top-seeded Mt. Lebanon, 11-10, and the FOxes got past No. 3 Shady Side Academy, 12-11.

Girls lacrosse

Pine-Richland 13, Upper St. Clair 8 – Mallory Boivin had five goals and two assists and Claire Mill finished with five goals and one assist to lead No. 2 Pine-Richland (16-3) to a Class 3A semifinal win over No. 3 Upper St. Clair (12-3). Cate Gentile had a goal and three assists, Lily Meehleib and Leyton Carlson each had a goal and an assist and Cara Murray made 13 saves for the Rams, who will face No. 1 Mt. Lebanon in the finals Wednesday or Thursday at Upper St. Clair. The Blue Devils beat No. 4 Fox Chapel, 18-6.

In Class 2A, No. 1 Mars will meet No. 3 Quaker Valley for the title. The Fightin’ Planets beat No. 4 South Fayette, 14-11, and the Quakers topped No. 2 Hampton, 15-5.

Boys volleyball

North Allegheny 3, Baldwin 0 – Brendan Moore had 11 kills, Will Robertson added nine kills and five blocks, Gavin Swierczynski had 18 assists and Emmett Morris finished with seven digs to lead No. 1 North Allegheny (12-0) in the Class 3A semifinals. The Tigers will meet No. 2 Butler in the finals at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Township. The Golden Tornado got past No. 3 Seneca Valley, 3-2.

In Class 2A, top-seeded Shaler will meet No. 3 South Fayette for the title at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Township. The Titans swept No. 5 Thomas Jefferson, 3-0, and the Lions defeated No. 2 Seton LaSalle, 3-2.
