Regina Finley was hands-on from an early age.
She grew up in the Creighton area of West Deer and discovered massage while in high school.
“I was always interested in massage and started when I was in musicals and sports,” Finley said. “If someone was injured on the field, I would just naturally go and massage them. And on long musical days when we had downtime, I would just give people back rubs.”
The daughter of a nurse, Finley drew upon her mother’s health background as she explored career options.
After graduating from Deer Lakes High School, Finley enrolled in the sports medicine program while attending West Virginia Wesleyan College.
There, she learned about sports massage and decided to drop out of college and enroll in massage school.
A massage therapist for 27 years, Finley has been in O’Hara since 2018. In 2022, she opened Massage by Regina & Co. at its present location along Freeport Road.
Specialty massages are available in 30- to 90-minute durations — including Swedish, deep massage, hot stone, foot massage and pregnancy massage.
Finley employs three licensed massage therapists at her practice: Leanne Jacobs, Leslie Laskey and Stephen DePietro.
“I gravitate toward clinical and orthopedic massage,” DePietro said. “We work a lot with physical therapists, and they refer to us.”
They partner with Fox Chapel Physical Therapy to serve clients seeking massage therapy.
Clients include all ages and genders, and those 16 and younger are accompanied by an adult during a massage.
“Massage can be anything to anyone,” Finley said. “It’s healing. It’s stress and pain relief. It’s emotional relief, and it is also for people in severe daily pain. Sometimes those are the ones that need it the most.”
Massage rates range from $60 to $140, depending on the length and type of massage. There also is a two-hour, head-to-toe massage available for $180.
The one-hour pregnancy massage is $100 and is best suited for women in their second and third trimesters.
During a pregnancy massage session, the client is surrounded by pillows and rests on her side.
“A lot of pregnant women have sciatic and hip issues, and we help to release some of that pain so they can get through their pregnancy,” Finley said.
During massages, clients can choose to keep on their undergarments or go au naturel.
“Whatever someone is comfortable with. It’s really up to you. You’re the one on the table and paying,” Finley said. “We’ve seen many bodies, and we’re accepting of all sizes. Just come in and be comfortable.”
Added DePietro: “Massage therapy used to be a luxury, but that has changed. Now people are taking the time and reading about the science on massage therapy on how it’s beneficial for everyone.”
A Swedish massage is like an “escape from your day,” DePietro said.
Hot stone massages use stones heated to around 135 degrees Fahrenheit.
“It feels like a warm blanket on you,” Finley said. “The stones are in the therapist’s hands, and they are being used as hands — moving down the leg and up the leg — around the shoulder. It’s a massage with hot rocks in our hands, and heat is very relaxing.”
