The proposed 2026-27 budget for Jeannette City School District does not carry a property tax hike.
“I am pleased to share we are not looking at a millage increase so there will be no impact on local taxpayers as far as an increase this year,” said superintendent Matt Jones.
School directors on Monday unanimously approved a preliminary version of the $26.4 million budget. The plan includes a projected deficit of $198,000, a decrease from $260,000 a month ago, Jones said.
School officials will continue to try to whittle that down over the next month before the plan comes before the board for final approval.
Property taxes were raised by 1 mill in 2025, setting the rate at 90 mills, among the lowest in the county.
School district millage rates in 2025 in Westmoreland County ranged from 85.90 mills in municipalities covered by Ligonier Valley to 158.91 in West Leechburg, where students attend Leechburg Area in Armstrong County, according to information compiled by the Westmoreland tax office.
