Brooks York went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, including the go-ahead run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning, to lead No. 12 Upper St. Clair to another upset in the WPIAL Class 5A baseball bracket, defeating No. 4 Moon in the quarterfinals 10-9 on Tuesday.

Nico D’Orazio went 4 for 5 and drove in a run for the Panthers (12-8), who will take on No. 8 Montour in an unlikely semifinal Thursday. Nick Machusko tripled and homered and Owen Amey doubled twice for No. 4 Moon (16-5).

Avonworth 7, Charleroi 6 – Nick Blackson walked with the bases loaded to bring home Patrick Bykowski with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as No. 1 Avonworth (17-5) staved off the upset from No. 9 Charleroi (12-9) in the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals at Ross Memorial Park. Case Lafore went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs for Avonworth while teammate Cooper Scharding went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Jaxson Klinger drove in two runs for Charleroi, which had jumped out to a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Avonworth will play No. 5 South Park in the semifinals Thursday.

Montour 3, Pine-Richland 2 – Matteo Weber struck out 10 while allowing three hits and two runs in 6⅓ innings as No. 8 Montour (17-5) upset Pine-Richland (16-6) in the WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinals at North Hills. Michael Ivanoff went 1 for 3, drove in a run and scored twice for Montour, which will face the No. 12 Upper St. Clair in the semifinals. Logan Plummer gave up two hits and two earned runs while striking out six in the complete-game loss.

Riverside 3, South Allegheny 0 – In the Class 3A quarterfinals at Gateway, Matt Santillo struck out eight while pitching a complete game two-hit shutout as No. 7 Riverside (12-7) beat No. 15 South Allegheny (10-10). Santillo also doubled and drove in two runs. Adam Jackowski gave up three hits and two earned runs and struck out 10 in the complete-game loss. Riverside plays No. 3 Ellwood City in the semifinals Thursday.

Softball

Baldwin 7, West Allegheny 1 – Camryn and Reese Temme each went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs as No. 5 Baldwin (18-4) defeated No. 4 West Allegheny (13-4) in the Class 5A quarterfinals at Pleasant Valley Elementary. Melina DeFelice picked up the complete-game win, allowing five hits and one run. Ava Benish drove in West Allegheny’s only run. The Highlanders will meet No. 1 Shaler in the semifinals Thursday.

Blackhawk 3, Laurel Highlands 1 – Kylie Prisuta gave up three hits and one run while striking out nine to lead No. 3 Blackhawk (11-4) over No. 6 Laurel Highlands (11-6) in the Class 4A quarterfinals at Pleasant Valley Elementary. Eva Parris drove in two runs for Blackhawk. Payton Senge gave up five hits and two earned runs and struck out seven in the complete-game loss. Blackhawk will play No. 7 North Catholic in the semifinals Thursday.

Hampton 9, Uniontown 2 – Josie Fritsch went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and picked up the win in the circle as No. 4 Hampton (15-5) beat No. 12 Uniontown (11-9) at West Mifflin in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Teresa Fritsch went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Marissa Snyder went 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs. Juliet White scored both Uniontown runs. Hampton matches up against No. 1 Elizabeth Forward in Thursday’s semifinals.

North Catholic 13, Knoch 10 – Olivia Kaminski, Mary Kotwica, Kennedy Brown and Dakota Hicks hit RBI singles as North Catholic erupted for five runs in the 10th inning to upend No. 2 Knoch in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Brown went 5 for 6 with a double, home run and six RBIs for the Trojans (14-5), who will face No. 3 Blackhawk in the semifinals Thursday. Kotwica and Addy Gray each had two RBIs. Marlee Fraser doubled and homered and Emersyn Jones also hit a home run for the Knights (16-3). Alena Tekely singled, doubled, tripled and drove in two runs and Lindsay Wise had a single double and two RBIs.

Seneca Valley 13, Pine-Richland 2 – Neve Miller went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs as No. 2 Seneca Valley (15-5) beat No. 6 Pine-Richland (9-13) in six innings at North Allegheny in the Class 6A semifinals. Abby Kalkowski homered and drove in three runs while picking up the complete-game win. Paige Volz added two hits and two RBIs for Seneca Valley. Maya Rippole went 2 for 2 with an RBI for Pine-Richland. Seneca Valley advances to face No. 1 Hempfield in the championship game.

Shaler 11, Armstrong 0 – Bria Bosijevac went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and gave up one hit while striking out 14 in a five-inning complete game as No. 1 Shaler (19-1) downed No. 8 Armstrong (12-9) at Plum in the Class 5A quarterfinals. Jayla Antomachi went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs while Addy Adelski homered and drove in three runs. Shaler will play No. 5 Baldwin in Thursday’s semifinals.
