Imani Christian star Gabe Jenkins plans to play for Coach Prime.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior has committed to Colorado, 247Sports.com reported Wednesday.
Jenkins, who also plays quarterback for the Saints, is a four-star recruit rated the 10th-best junior prospect in Pennsylvania and 30th best safety prospect in the country, according to rivals.com.
He committed to Penn State last August, then changed course when the Nittany Lions fired coach James Franklin in October.
Jenkins had more than two dozen major college offers, ranging from Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia to Georgia, Michigan, Indiana and Virginia Tech.
Last season, Jenkins led Imani Christian to the WPIAL Class 3A finals while passing for 1,763 yards and rushing for 1,411. He threw 29 touchdown passes and rushed for 15 more scores. He made 24 tackles on defense.
“They have made me feel so wanted. They have a plan for me at strong safety. They feel I could play a little offense. I really like the fit,” Jenkins told rivals.com.
“Coming from Pittsburgh, you’re going to experience something new. Colorado is different. You got the mountains, got the snow in the background.”
Colorado coach Deion Sanders, one of the most high-profile figures in the sport, made a memorable visit to Western Pennsylvania in November when his Buffaloes stopped at Moon for a practice before facing West Virginia.
