Pittsburgh Penguins forward Tommy Novak scored a game-tying goal at 54:13 of the third period for the United States, which beat Germany, 4-3, in a shootout during a preliminary round game in the International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) World Championship tournament at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich on Wednesday.

Opening the contest as the first-line center, Novak logged 16:44 of ice time on 22 shifts, had two shots and was 3 for 11 (27.2%) in faceoffs.

Penguins defenseman Connor Clifton started the contest on the right side of the United States’ third pairing and clocked 16:12 of ice time on 22 shifts and had one shot.
