Sewickley Heights officials have partnered with the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association to search for the borough police department’s next chief.

Borough manager Nathan Briggs said officials researched four groups to provide the service and went with the association due to its expertise in Pennsylvania and inherent commitment to the police profession and chief position.

The job was posted on May 11. Resumes and applications will be accepted through June 12.

More information is available at pachiefs.org/employment-opportunities-listing.

Council was expected to approve an agreement with the association on May 18. However, not enough council members were available for a quorum.

Briggs said the deal will be ratified at the June meeting.

The estimated cost for the chief search is $14,000.

Investigation cost

An investigation into alleged controversial communications by former Sewickley Heights Police Chief James Harrison cost the borough about $12,000.

The information was provided to TribLive earlier this month as part of a Right-to-Know request.

Invoices indicate the investigation by the law firm Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky went from Jan. 28 through Feb. 19.

Council accepted Harrison’s resignation in March and approved a separation agreement.

Borough officials never specified what the communications were about.

Retired Edgeworth Police Chief John English was hired as a police management consultant to handle department administrative duties while the search for Harrison’s replacement is underway.
