A remarkable season for North Allegheny boys tennis continued Friday with No. 1 singles player Advaita Sircar and No. 1 doubles team Ashwin Sudhakar and Matt Kampi moving into Saturday’s PIAA Class 3A semifinals.
Defending champion Max Henson of Belle Vernon and WPIAL runner-up Will Meagher of Quaker Valley and doubles champs Jonah Jasek and Steven Duing of South Park are alive in the semifinals in the Class 2A bracket.
North Allegheny won WPIAL singles, doubles and team titles this season and claimed the PIAA team championship earlier this month.
Sircar won convincingly in two matches Friday, beating Julian Snell of JP McCaskey, 6-3, 6-0, and Michael Goldovsky of Council Rock South, 6-3, 6-4. He’ll meet District 3 champ Braylen Garcia of Landisville Hempfield in the semifinals.
North Allegheny No. 2 singles player Evan Kaufman, the WPIAL runner-up, won his first match Friday but fell in three sets in the quarterfinals.
Sudhakar and Kampi battled into the semifinals. They defeated Ethen Mengel and Christopher Uzar of Wilson West Lawn, 7-5, 6-4, then outlasted Tristan Lubiniecki and Jake Tsang of Conestoga, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. They’ll take on District 3 champ Gabriel Yuan and Max Laurore of Hershey on Saturday.
Mt. Lebanon’s Luca Ritivoi and Noah Kalber beat Allderdice’s Barak Raz and Alex Friedman, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round but fell in the quarterfinals.
In Class 2A, Henson breezed into the semifinals. He rolled Wesley Crumling of Eastern York, 6-2, 6-0, and District 1 champ Max Spodik of Lower Moreland, 6-2, 6-2. He’ll meet District 4 champ Ryder Fink of Jersey Shore on Saturday.
Meagher, meanwhile, beat District 10 champ Joe Prichard of Cathedral Prep, 6-2, 6-1, and District 2 champ Billy Hall of Wyoming Seminary, 7-6 (1), 6-4. He’ll face District 12 champ Eric Roedl Jr. of Archbishop Carroll in the semifinals.
Jasek and Duing rolled Nolan Stoltzfus and Jack Feister of Pequea Valley, 6-2, 6-2, and got past District 1 champs Daniel Gallagher and Liam O’Sullivan of Bishop Shanahan, 6-1, 7-6 (5). They’ll take on David Schnatz and Sullivan Stringer of Berks Catholic in the semifinals.
