Murf Gray
Position: 3B
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 230 pounds
Level: High-A
Notable: The Pittsburgh Pirates want to see their prospects check a wide variety of boxes before promoting them up through the minor leagues.
Judging by the body of work he put together at Low-A Bradenton, third baseman Murf Gray, the franchise’s No. 17 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, seems to have done all the Pirates hoped he would, as he was promoted to High-A Greensboro on Monday.
Gray, 22, slashed .359/.436/.606 with a 1.042 OPS over 38 games with the Marauders at the time of his elevation.
He also hit eight homers with 11 doubles and 34 RBIs, striking out 30 times with 15 walks.
Upon entering the Grasshoppers’ lineup May 19, Gray did so with a bang, launching a home run in his first High-A appearance.
A Fresno State product from Madera, Calif., Triston Allen “Murf” Gray was a Competitive Balance Round B (No. 73 overall) selection by the Pirates in 2025.
Now, the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder is in his first season of professional baseball and already climbing the ranks.
Defensively, Gray has played exclusively at third base, with some designated hitter duties, as well.
Over three seasons at Fresno State, Gray was a career .306 batter, with 36 home runs and 163 RBIs in 172 games.
