A military flyover will be part of the Memorial Day services Monday at the Brackenridge American Legion Post 226.

Commander David Mainhart said members will raise the American flag at noon in front of the post at 845 First Ave.

Attendees can gather for a ceremony afterward at the monument in Brackenridge Memorial Park, across the street. It will include speakers, a wreath laying and rifle volleys.

The highlight will be a C-17 Globemaster flyover by the 911th Airlift Wing from the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station. That is expected to happen at about 12:45 p.m. Mainhart said.

The C-17 is used for rapid strategic delivery of troops and cargo to main operating bases or to bases in deployment areas.

The Brackenridge flyover is part of a larger schedule by the 911th that will travel from Bethel Park to Jefferson County, Ohio.

People should expect to hear and see the low-flying aircraft, beginning before 10:30 a.m., over Bethel Park, Irwin, Richland, Sharpsburg and Oakmont.

Flyovers are conducted as part of scheduled training.
