North Allegheny wrapped up what has to be the greatest boys tennis season in WPIAL history on Saturday with not one but two championship performances.
Advaita Sircar won the Class 3A singles title and Ashwin Sudhakar and Matt Kampi won the Class 3A doubles crown at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Sircar won singles championships in the WPIAL and PIAA tournaments, Sudhakar and Kampi did the same in doubles, and as a team, the Tigers went 21-0 and won WPIAL and PIAA titles.
Sircar was untouchable in the finals Saturday, defeating Conestoga’s Ethan Sun, 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, Sircar took care of District 3 champ Braylen Garcia of Landisville Hempfield, 6-3, 6-2.
In the postseason, Sircar went 12-0, didn’t lose a set and dropped a total of 21 games, with 15 of those coming in the state tournament.
Sudhakar and Kampi played more competitive matches Saturday, but they still didn’t drop a set. In the semifinals, they beat District 3 champs Gabriel Yuan and Max Laurore of Hershey, 7-6(5), 6-3. In the finals, they defeated Frankie DeLucia and Vincent Strenge of Pennsbury, 6-1, 7-6 (8).
Sircar is the second North Allegheny player to win a state singles title, joining Tom Liebenguth in 1976. Sudhakar and Kampi are the fourth doubles team from NA to win a state title.
Meanwhile, in Class 2A, Belle Vernon’s Max Henson defended his state championship, becoming the 19th player to win multiple PIAA singles titles.
He had a battle on his hands in the finals, losing the first set before rallying for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over District 12 champ Eric Roedl Jr. of Archbishop Carroll. In the semifinals, Henson beat District 4 champ Ryder Fink of Jersey Shore, 6-2, 6-3.
Henson, a Cleveland State recruit, beat three district champs on his way to the title.
Quaker Valley’s Will Meagher finished fourth in Class 2A singles, losing in the semifinals to Roedl and the third-place match to Fink.
WPIAL champs Jonah Jasek and Steven Duing of South Park finished as PIAA runners-up. They beat David Schnatz and Sullivan Stringer of Berks Catholic in the semifinals, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, before falling to District 10 champs Gavin Ferretti and Charbel Moubarak of Cathedral Prep, 7-6 (7), 6-3, in the finals.
