A contingent from the Pittsburgh Steelers showed up in an unexpected location this weekend — a Mexican Lucha Libre ring.
Hall of Fame center Dermontti Dawson, safety Sebastian Castro and mascot Steely McBeam accompanied luchadore Neon to the ring for a match during a “Viernes Espectacular” professional wrestling card at Arena Mexico on Friday night.
Neon appeared in a black-and-gold wrestling mask and No. 92 Steelers jersey with “CMLL” on the nameplate, referring to the popular Mexican wrestling organization Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre that promotes the often sold-out shows held weekly at the Mexico City venue.
Dawson and Castro accompanied Neon to the ring, also wearing the masks before removing them and encouraging the cheering crowd by waving Terrible Towels.
The CMLL x NFL partnership is crazy! They did an entire hype package for the Pittsburg Steelers then had Neon do his entrance with Steeler Sebastian Castro and NFL Hall of Famer Dermonti Dawson #ViernesEspectacularCMLLpic.twitter.com/SVGIZ33Pyb

The Steelers have long been considered one of the most popular NFL teams in Mexico, and they are one of nine teams officially granted marketing rights there by the league’s International Home Marketing Area program.
The NFL and CMLL have worked together in a promotional capacity with luchadores Mascara Dorada and Soberano Jr. appearing in a video announcing a Nov. 22 game this season between San Francisco and Minnesota at Estadio Azteca.
Neon, unfortunately, ended up on the losing end of the match. His team, with Mascara Dorada and Barbaro Cavernario, was defeated by Hechicero, El Clon and Rocky Romero in a trios match.
